Sunday, Scary Sunday

This post is totally non-craft related. Excuse me, but there is a mouse in my house, and I'm freaking out just a little. Mice are my one thing. One thing that I can't deal with. My poor husband is such a trooper when it comes to these things. He is diligent in the hunt and capture of the mouse, and usually succeeds in 24 hours. Don't worry friends, we only use humane traps, and JAB always sets the little mouse free, far from the house.

I thought I heard a mouse Sunday night when we were watching Heroes, and then I saw the mouse about 15 minutes after that. So I went to the store and bought 4 traps. Just standing there looking at all the mice on the packaging was creeping me out.

I got home, and JAB set the traps out, and we continued watching Heroes, and waited. We heard the mouse trying to get in to one of the traps and we thought we got him, but he was too tricky. We finally went to bed, and I laid there thinking every little sound was the mouse coming to eat me up.

The next day Darcy and I went to my Mom's all day. Yes, that's right. I'm so scared I can't even stay at my house without JAB when there is a mouse. I can't even go in the kitchen.

When we got home that night, JAB was in the kitchen, standing at the sink, and I walked up to throw something away and the mouse scurried across the floor! I bolted in to the living room and jumped on the couch. I asked JAB if he saw it, and he said yes, it went down in the floor vent. O. M. G. NO!!

He told me that particular floor vent doesn't work, which leads us to think there must be a hole in the duct, so maybe, hopefully, it's under the house, or outside now. We haven't heard or seen anything for over 24 hours. Today, Wednesday, is the first day Darcy and I are staying at home, and we don't have the car, so if there is a monster still in the house, I just have to face my fear. (I've actually been in the kitchen a few times, jumping at every sound and shadow, mind you.)

We have decided it's time to add a cat to our family. So after looking on Craigslist, I am going to look at a 3 month old male white and tabby cat! He has already been neutered and has had his first round of shots. His current foster Mom says he even gets along with dogs and is always hunting for bugs, so he sounds like he will be a good mouser. I'm really excited to meet him.

What scares you the most? Any tips on facing your fears?

xoxo
Amy

Mice don't bother me but oh man, I haaaaaate there being any kind of bug in my house. Mainly spiders, which is pretty standard but man, they just make me feel so creepy crawly!! When my boyfriend and I lived in Wisconsin for a few months there were ALWAYS these gross little bugs in our room that somehow came in through a door we had that lead to outside. So gross, ugh. I hated going to bed every night!

Cockroaches.

We seldom get them in the house, mostly because hubby is diligent about setting off foggers in the attic and the crawl space every quarter or so. But if one happens to get into the house and I see it, oh mercy the freakoutedness begins. I've been known to wake hubby up from a dead sleep to kill a cockroach, which he always does without complaint . . . while I'm in another room standing on a piece of furniture that gets my feet as far away from the floor as possible.

Spiders. We have crickets that sometimes get in the house and when I can see them out of the corner of my eye, it scares the heck out of me! Then I realize what it is, and although I don't really like them, I can usually get them in a bag or shoo them with my flip flops out the door. I just don't like when the jump, and boy, do they jump!

Hi, thanks for your kind comment on my blog. Hey, you look like a talented and with-it kind of embroidery guru, can you answer a question? I have these hankies I bought in Belgium for my daughters, thinking I could embroider them in blue for their future weddings (way off!). Is there a secret to embroidering something that looks great on both sides? or will you always have a snarl on one side? sorry for the looong comment.

It's comforting to hear that I'm not the only one who is afraid of creepy crawlers! I guess it's really just fitting for the upcoming Halloween holiday, isn't it?

Larissa: I'm sending you an email now! :)

I am the same way with mice. When I was pregnant and couldn't sleep comfortably in bed, I would sleep in the recliner in the living room. One night I heard a mouse in a nearby heat vent. You've never seen a pregnant lady move so fast!!

I also hate and fear crickets. Oh lordy, they are evil.

I wish I had good advice on how to combat the fear, but unfortunately I don't!! ;P Tee hee.

i am terrified (to the point of harming myself or babies in my arms) at the sight of bugs. I HATE them ALL! Worst - we live in Arizona so we have lovely scorpions to fear as well.
Thankfully - we did get two kitties for their mousing/bug hunting abilities along with cuddling with us.
I am pleased to say that I am still terrified of bugs but knowing that our cats like them as snacks(even the scorpions) makes me hold off on the urge to IMMEDIATELY smoosh the critter. Now- i have a sick joy watching the cats play with the bugs before eating them. It's fantastic.
I hope your kitty will do the same for you and your mice.

Ha! I understand your fear of mice. I use to fear the little critters until I came home one night to a snake in my kitchen!!! When I ran outside to get my dh, it had disappeared. Luckily, it reappeared a couple of hours later while we were watching TV so dh got it and released it back into the wild . . . far away from the house. :D Good luck with your mouse situation!
